Prior to 12th grade, the course can only be taken concurrently with another math course in the recommended sequence. During the 12th grade, the course can satisfy the 4th year math requirement for college bound advanced math students who are not interested in pursuing a STEM-related field of study. The four broad conceptual themes of the course include exploring data, designing a study, anticipating patterns, and statistical inference with emphasis placed on critical thinking and problem solving.
